Combat Hunger collects over 23,500 pounds of food to restock Manna Cafe

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Manna Café Ministries held its 14th annual Combat Hunger on Saturday, collecting 23,523 pounds of donated food and $6,431 in cash donations.
Dozens of volunteers helped out with the effort at a dozen grocery stores in Clarksville-Montgomery County and three others in Dover.
Volunteers handed out food lists as shoppers went inside the stores. Shoppers were asked to buy a few extra food items and drop them off in food bins as they left. Other volunteers helped unload trucks and sort the items at the home of Manna Cafe on Providence Boulevard.
“Combat Hunger is absolutely crucial to help us get through the winter months,” said Manna Cafe Executive Director Vicki York. “It just goes a long way toward us having the food that we need to get through the winter, through the holidays, sometimes even into spring.”
York added that it takes a lot of work, groceries are expensive and it’s important when people put extra in their shopping cart on top of what they need that week.
Combat Hunger is sponsored in part by 5 Star Media Group.
