CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Ice hockey teams from across the Clarksville area gathered to showcase their skills at the Ford Ice Center on Sunday. Attendees had the first chance to meet and mingle with the players from the Red River Spartans, Austin Peay State University, Fort Campbell and the Montgomery County High School hockey team.

This event marked the first time all four home teams competed together on the ice. The competition featured a variety of events, including the hardest shot, fastest lap, shooting accuracy, stick handling, team relay, shootout, and a 3 v 3 game. The event also offered a silent auction, photo booth, raffles and other activities.Clarksville Ice Hockey All Star Competition at the Ford Ice Center on September 8, 2024. (Wesley Irvin)

Josh Tobin said the All-Star Showcase came about two months ago as a way to highlight local hockey in Clarksville, “adding all the new teams to the area, and taking time to allow the fans to meet all the teams on one sheet of ice.”

“When we spoke with the Spartans owners/coach and Coach Kane from APSU, we wanted a way to show the community that all four teams are on the same side. That means growing the hockey community from the kids up to (the Spartans),” Tobin said.

Tobin, who has been running the Fort Campbell hockey team for nine months, talked about the special times they’ve had, like charity games that gave back to the communities. Now he is the head varsity coach for the Montgomery County Rangers. He saw the showcase as a perfect chance to raise money. “We raised over $1,000 for the high school hockey program.”Clarksville Ice Hockey All Star Competition at the Ford Ice Center on September 8, 2024. “At the end of the day, we want the Fort Campbell and Clarksville community to see how hockey should be. It’s a family. Now with Coach Liam (Spartans), Coach Kane (APSU), Coach Josh (Montgomery Rangers), and Coach Brian (Montgomery Rangers), we have the right people to help the community grow.”

Tobin is excited for the future, saying, “I can see more chances for all of us to support each other’s programs, and run youth clinics to help build a stronger hockey future. … We all hope to see you at the next home game for our new Red River Spartans on Sept. 13 and 14, and at the Montgomery County Rangers’ first home game on Sept. 18. Cheer on the APSU Govs this season, too.”
