MLB player Tyley Rogers inducted into Austin Peay Athletics Hall of Fame

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Austin Peay State University held its second Governors’ First Pitch Banquet Saturday at the Winfield Dunn Center. Close to 300 people were in attendance as APSU inducted former Governors’ baseball pitcher Tyler Rogers into the Austin Peay Athletics Hall of Fame.
Rogers, a 2013 graduate, recently signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco Giants for the upcoming 2024 season. The 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, Rogers finished his APSU career with a record 35 saves in two seasons and helped lead the Govs to the 2012 and 2013 OVC Championships.
“It’s a pretty cool honor to still be remembered 10 years after you went to school somewhere. It’s humbling and it makes you feel good. It was very nice to have some family here and kind of relive the glory days and see some old teammates; it was a great weekend,” Rogers said.
APSU Athletics Hall of Fame member Shawn Kelley, who graduated in 2007, and was inducted in 2014, was also on hand. Kelley was the 2007 OVC Pitcher of the Year and went on to enjoy an 11-year Major League Baseball career with six teams.
The banquet featured the opportunity for guests to meet and talk with players and coaches of the Govs baseball team. There was also live music from country performer Zach Ray, both a silent and live auction, with money raised benefiting the Austin Peay Athletics Fund of Excellence.
The evening also included APSU Head Baseball Coach Roland Fanning, with an introduction of the 2024 Govs coaching staff and baseball team.
Season tickets for the 2024 Governor’s baseball season that begins Feb. 16, including 28 games at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park, are now available. For more information and to purchase season tickets visit Ticketmaster.com or call the APSU Athletics Office at 931-221 PEAY (7329).
