Styx to bring ‘Come Sail Away,’ ‘Renegade,’ ‘Mr. Roboto’ to F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville

by Chris Smith

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Progressive rock legend and Top 40 hitmaker Styx is coming to the F&M Bank Arena this fall. Styx, whose many hits include “Come Sail Away,” “Too Much Time On My Hands” and “Renegade,” will perform Tuesday, Sept. 17, with special guest Jet Black Roses.

The seven-member Styx now includes James “JY” Young (lead vocals, guitars), Tommy Shaw (lead vocals, guitars), Chuck Panozzo (bass, vocals), Todd Sucherman (drums, percussion), Lawrence Gowan (lead vocals, keyboards), Will Evankovich (guitars) and Terry Gowan (bass, vocals). Styx was formed in Chicago in 1972 with a progressive rock sound, shifting to pop rock and soft rock in the 1980s. Other hits include “Mr. Roboto,” “Babe,” “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights),” “Lady,” “The Best of Times” and more.

In 2021, Styx released their 17th studio album, Crash of the Crown, which was written pre-pandemic and recorded during the trying times that followed. “Absolutely no obstacles were going to get in the way of how we approached creating this album,” Shaw said about the album in a news release. “And everything came out exactly the way we wanted to hear it.”

The concert will be a homecoming of sorts for the Shaw family. Tommy Shaw’s wife, Jeanne, grew up in Clarksville.

Opener Jet Black Roses is often described as “rock ‘n’ roll with a country soul,” influenced by Tom Petty and Aerosmith along with George Strait and Alan Jackson.

Tickets go on sale Friday, July 19, at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster.com.
