Teams face off in Mayor vs. General Broomball at Ford Ice Center | VIDEO

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Mayor vs. the General Broomball game took place at the Ford Ice Center on Thursday, with a fair share of body checks and take-downs. The game featured Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden and Fort Campbell’s Maj. Gen. Brett Sylvia in a friendly competition.
This was the fifth time the event was held in Montgomery County. Former County Mayor Jim Durrett and Clarksville Now’s Lee Erwin were the emcees for the evening.
“I just want to thank Mayor Golden and this wonderful community for inviting us out here for some revenge and redemption after last year,” said Maj. Gen. Sylvia. “It’s a great opportunity to bring us all together.”
After the main game, there were two more matchups: The Montgomery County Highway Department played the Clarksville Street Department and Clarksville Gas & Water played Clarksville Fire & Rescue.

The day before, during an Economic Development Council meeting, Golden expressed some trepidation about the match. “Somebody will probably get hurt, and I hope it’s not me,” he said.
After the game, an unscathed Golden called the event a win-win. “It’s a great way for the community to get our and enjoy the arena.” He highlighted how the event helps bring people together, including county officials, military personnel, first responders and utility workers, while also raising money for the United Way.
The game has been a tradition since 2018, originally held at the Downtown Commons outdoor ice rink. In 2024, Montgomery County took home the trophy, but this year, the Fort Campbell team claimed victory.
