CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville-Montgomery County community is coming together and working to recover from the effects of recent thunderstorms and severe flooding. Organizations like YAIPAK Outreach, the American Red Cross, along with local businesses like Lowes are on the front lines of those efforts.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, volunteers with YAIPAK Outreach delivered food boxes and cleaning supplies to The Retreat at Concord, 137-A West Concord Drive, after heavy rain on Saturday, Feb. 15, which led to flooding across the apartment complex.

Mayer Marks serves with the Rebuild Hope Program at YAIPAK that helps with disaster situations and said, “We wanted to make sure we could provide some food for them, because one of the biggest things is to make sure everybody’s fed. We also have some cleaning supplies we left which is a strong second need,” Marks said.

Marks said the food kits and cleaning buckets were donated by the Operation Blessing organization. Mary Lockett and William Woods with the Tennessee River Chapter of the American Red Cross were also on hand and dropped of a total of 44 packs of cleaning supplies for the residents of the apartments.

Jonason Hawkins is the manager for the Lowes storefront on Lowes Drive, and he said for any need in the community, Lowes comes out through donations or as a resource. Hawkins was handing out $100 gift cards to Lowes for those affected by the flooding at the apartments.

Crystal Herder, Vice President of Organizational Development for Volunteer Properties, said a total of 66 apartment units were involved with around 24 units affected by the water. Herder thanked all of the groups that are part of the relief efforts.

“We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support and generosity we have been receiving from the community during this challenging time. Their help, as well as their kindness, has truly touched our hearts and reminded us that we are not alone in this struggle,” Herder said.
