Weekend top picks: Fort Defiance history reenactment, Empty Bowls and more

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – With sunny skies ahead, get outside this weekend and watch a free living history event at Fort Defiance, feed the hungry with the Empty Bowl series, or enjoy Thoughts of a Colored Man at the Roxy Regional Theatre.

Surrender of Clarksville: Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center is hosting a free living history event to commemorate the surrender of Clarksville and Fort Defiance to Union soldiers in 1862. Outside activities will include uniformed soldiers providing living history and cannon firing demonstrations. Join Fort Defiance at 120 A Street on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Empty Bowls: Sunday Feb. 18, marks the first empty bowl event series in Clarksville at Madison Street Methodist Church! By purchasing one ticket, you are supporting Loaves and Fishes, Clarksville Urban Ministries, and Manna Café Ministries in helping feeding the hungry in the community. They will be serving from 11-1 p.m. and 4:30-7 p.m., with more dates and times to come.

Thoughts of a Colored Man: Through the storytelling style of slam narrative, Thoughts of a Colored Man fuses spoken word, slam poetry, and rhythm to explore the vibrant inner lives of seven Black men. Guests can enjoy a show Friday at 7 p.m. or Saturday at 2 p.m. or 7 p.m., at the Roxy, 100 Franklin Street.
