Weekend top picks: New Year’s Eve Party at Commons, First Day Hike at Dunbar

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – It’s New Year’s weekend, so there’s fun stuff in store, including a party at the Commons, plus the final weekend for Christmas lights!

New Year’s Eve Party: For the first time, Montgomery County will host a New Year’s Eve event. This free, family-friendly event will include singing, dancing, and food! A 10-piece live band, dance floor, and string lighting will be placed on the lawn under a clear tent. There will also be a photo-booth trailer, food trucks, lounge seating, outdoor fire pits, and a surprise ‘drop’ at midnight during the celebration. It’s all Sunday, Dec. 31, at 9 p.m.Downtown Commons, 215 Legion Street.

First Day Hike: Our Cultural Landscape: Celebrate the New Year while learning about the rich cultural history at Dunbar Cave. Join Ranger Adam for a 2.75-mile loop hike to discover how the landscape has been altered by the various cultures that have utilized it throughout the centuries. Please wear good walking shoes and bring water. Meet at Dunbar Cave State Park, 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road, on Monday, Jan. 1 at 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Christmas on the Cumberland: Enjoy over 1 million lights, along the Cumberland River for the final weekend. Completely free, the lights will be on display until Jan. 2 from 5-10 pm. on Sunday-Thursday, and 5-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Located at McGregor Park, 640 N. Riverside Drive. Lights may be turned off during rain or extreme weather.

Drive-thru Christmas Lights: See over 3 million lights on display, from the comfort of your own car for the final weekend. The event is $30 per car ($50 if more than 8 are in your car). Located at the Clarksville Speedway and Fairgrounds, 1600 Needmore Road. The display will be open 5:30-10 p.m. nightly until Jan. 1.
